What “obsolete” actually means
A component becomes obsolete when the manufacturer stops producing it. That is rarely sudden — it usually starts with a Product Change Notification (PCN) or PDN, followed by a last-time-buy window of six to twelve months. After that, the part exists only on the open market.
Most buyers meet the problem later: the last-time-buy window closed years ago, the design is certified, and redesigning costs more than the part is worth. That's the point where we're useful.
